Final Evaluation

My Final Major Project has been very successful. My Children’s Book focusses on the main character experiencing a feeling of anxiety and ultimately provides children with a way of overcoming their negative feelings and shifting them to positive feelings instead. With this valuable technique offered in the book, I believe many people and places would benefit from reading and enjoying my book. It is set in a school, so of course a perfect place for the book to be read is in schools, to help children once they have entered the new environment. It is also a perfect book for parents to read with their children, as there is a clear bond between the main child character, Saxon and his Mum. Children will be able to relate to the character and their parents will help them use their imagination and to understand the technique of riding through their feelings of anxiety.

I would be very pleased if my book were to be published in the future. To help make this happen I will be sending a copy of my book to Children’s Book Publishers, such as Usbourne, Scholastic, Bloomsbury etc. By sending it to these publishers, even if I may not be successful first time round, I would hopefully be able to gain ideas for areas of improvement for next time I decide to send my work to them. I have also entered my book into the Macmillan Prize, which would be a fantastic thing to win as my book would then be published with Macmillan.

I could develop my book further by creating a brand for it. As the main character, Saxon, has such a cute and cuddly appearance, I think creating the character into a soft toy or figurine could work well. Then the child will be able to use the character as a comforter, not only in the book but also as something to hold. If the child sees the character as brave and riding through his anxiety, then the child will relate and do the same. I would like to create a small box, like a lunchbox, which would have Saxon's character either stuck or printed on the outside. Inside the box would be a soft toy Saxon with each of his toys that he has in the book. A child could then take this lunch box to school and change the toy to match what Saxon takes for each day of the week. The child could then follow Saxon's story and feel comforted along the way.
I would like to create posters that can be used as a display with this character and lunch box. Also possibly stickers that could be given out to people to remind them of the story. I think these ideas together would be a great way of creating a brand for my children's book and promoting it further.
