Text and Fonts

It's really important to find a font that sits well with my Illustrations. A playful font, with curves to the lettering, and a handwriting effect I feel works very well in children's books. I really like the lettering used in 'Back to School Tortoise'. (9)

'Back to School Tortoise' By Lucy M. George and Merel Eyckerman
I think this is a very sweet font and works and sits very well with the illustrations.

Using Photoshop, I went through each font that was available and made a note of which ones caught my attention and that I felt could work with the illustrations in my book.

After viewing all of the fonts in the list above I chose my favourite ones that I would try with my illustrations, to see which ones complemented the book as a whole.

The first ones I tried were Noteworthy Light and Noteworthy Bold:

I think that the main title works well in this font. However I think the rest of the text is just a bit too much with the artwork. It seems a little too curvy and takes away the focus on the illustrations.

The next fonts I tried were Hannotate TC Bold and Hanzipen TC Bold:

I think this font (Hannotate TC Bold) for the title is great, it's simple and sits well with the rest of the cover. I really like the font that I have used for the rest of the text. It has the handwriting effect that I like, and it makes the book and illustrations appear more personal.
